Socialism worked well in Venezuela for a year or so, when they just taxed the rich and nationalized businesses who had been profitable. What a party. Venezuela even gloated about their oil wealth. Confiscating and living off other people’s money is always such a sweet revenge for your poverty.
On the up-side, redistribution of wealth works great until the wealth and the capitalist investments are gone. On the downside, in it’s worst state, imagine full-blown communism and gulags for dissenters. Redistributing wealth only works until the wealth is gone; then you become the compulsory taxpayer to support the state. With no incentive to make wealth, everyone eventually becomes the workforce for the government.
Some might argue that you must hate poor people if you resist socialism. However, our country was founded on Christian principles which empowered our rights as an individual. Socialism is diametrically opposed to the doctrines of Christian charity. Charity is an individual act of mercy, love and altruism. Socialism, in contrast, forces its purported charitable doctrine on the populace through laws, taxation and criminal prosecution. Government imposed charity isn’t charity at all…. it is confiscation and redistribution of wealth by the government.
Our Constitution protects the individual and is diametrically opposed to the philosophy of socialism which promotes the masses over the individual.
Socialism, in order to survive must take more and more from the productive to support the government and it’s redistribution plan. The real nature of socialism is power and it works as long as everyone has their hand in someone else’s pocket….. until the money is gone and the “will to work” is replaced by the “forced labor” required by the government to continue the scheme. The government is always the big winner, not the people subservient to the government. Therein lies the dividing difference between socialism and our individual rights prescribed by our Constitution.
Comparing Christian charity to socialist charity is scriptural and should be done. Christians are to care for the poor, widows, orphans, etc. They are to be willing and cheerful givers. Socialism is completely contrary to Christianity. The government is the replacement for YOUR cheerful giving. It taxes you and uses your money to satisfy its needs. The intended philanthropic philosophies are totally dissimilar. Socialism is the antecedent of Christian charity. Charity is an individual act of mercy, love and altruism. Socialism, in contrast, forces its purported charitable doctrine on the populace through laws, taxation and criminal prosecution. Socialist forced charity isn’t charity at all. It is confiscation of wealth by the government.
